My Condition
Carpal Tunnel

Carpal tunnel is a pain on the hand or the wrist caused by pressure on the median nerve. The causes of carpal tunnel syndrome can include illness, pregnancy, obesity, bone injuries, and smoking.  Symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome include pain or discomfort in all fingers excluding the pinky finger.

Likely tests: The patient will likely undergo a carpal tunnel X-ray, nerve conduction test or an electromyogram.

Treatment options: Mild cases may use finger splints and pain medications.  Severe cases may require wrist surgery.

Typical recovery times: In most cases, recovery will last about a week.  In mild cases it may last only a few days.
