My Condition
Subdural Hematoma

Subdural hematoma is a collection of blood on the surface of the brain.  Common symptoms include confused speech, difficulty with balance, headache, nausea, seizures, weakness and slurred speech. A subdural hematoma is usually the result of a serious head injury. They can also occur during minor head injuries, which can go unnoticed for a period of time.

Likely tests: A CT scan or MRI scan will likely be done to evaluate the presence of a subdural hematoma.

Treatment options: Emergency surgery may be needed to reduce pressure within the brain. This may involve drilling a small hole in the skull in some cases.

Average recovery: If surgery is needed, recovery time can be around 3 months.
